The name of their gang - "ZIG ZAG" - stood for "Defenders of the Interests of Germany - Banner of Adolf Hitler." Over the course of one year, bandits stole approximately 17 tons of bread, resulting in the deaths of 260,000 people.

Police captain Tikhon is following the bloody trail of the criminals together with counterintelligence officer Felix sent from Moscow who is clearly hiding something. Distrust between the partners grows, and the more they immerse themselves in the investigation, the more confusing the whole case appears. Gradually, the heroes begin to understand that the robberies are just a cover for a larger and more terrible goal. The series is based on real events.
