The Nika Film Award ceremony took place at the Maska Theatre in Moscow.

The National Film Award "Nika" was established in 1987. It is one of the main national film awards, along with the "Golden Eagle". If the "Orlov" is awarded by the National Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, founded by Nikita Mikhalkov, then the Russian Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and its president Andrei Konchalovsky are responsible for the "Nika".

The winners are determined by secret voting of the members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts. The laureates receive a prize - a statuette of the winged ancient Greek goddess Nike.
