Filming for the series "Novaya Zemlya" took place in Crimea, the Zaporizhzhia region, and St. Petersburg.
This is the first NTV series to be set in a new constituent entity of the Russian Federation – the Zaporizhzhia region.

According to the plot, criminal investigation officer Timofey Zabelin arrives in Berdyansk, a southern city in the Zaporizhzhia region. He realizes he's entered a completely different world, where everything is different from his usual surroundings: there are practically no street surveillance cameras, and checking your car for explosive devices is a daily necessity. The arrest of an ordinary hooligan here can easily turn into a shootout with heavy weapons, and a visit to the crime scene can lead to an ambush by enemy saboteurs.
